People in Finland have a sauna on Christmas Eve. A sauna is a very hot room with a fireplace in the corner of it.
Christmas Eve is more important to the Fins than Christmas Day.

At about mid-day on Christmas Eve, 'Christmas Peace' is declared over all Finland from the country's former capital, Turku. It is a ceremonial 'opening' of the Christmas season.
In Finland Father Christmas is called Joulupukki.

Joulupukki visits every home on Christmas Eve. The children actually get to see him before they go to bed. He brings presents for the children.

A traditional decoration is a geometric mobile made of straw called a 'himmeli' .The straw is first soften by placing it in a sauna and then threaded to make triangles, squares and eight sided figures.

Christmas is usually white in Finland. It snows!

The main Christmas meal is on Christmas Eve. Traditionally they eat ham with home made mustard and boiled potatoes, followed my rice porridge for dessert. If they find an almond in the rice porridge they can make a wish.

I sent an e-mail to Father Christmas to ask him how he makes his reindeers fly.

17 days till Christmas!

Merry Christmas Wreath My vote is to have Christmas traditions all year round. You see at Christmas time most people at least the ones I have met, always change just a little for the better around Christmas. I do not know whether or not it is the great yuletide Christmas carols, the festive atmosphere everywhere you go, or just some hidden part in all of us that screams out,
( I BELIEVE IN MORE THAN WHAT I SEE AROUND ME. )
You see, somewhere deep down inside we all believe in something better than we now have or see, and most of us feel a lot better when we help someone. Whether the person is in need or not, this feeling is what I call the feeling of Christmas, and we all should strive to feel this way all year long.

Christmas 2011 is on December 25th and is the first Christmas of a new decade. The feeling of the Christmas holidays is truly all about family, friends and celebrating all things good.

"TREAT ALL OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM TREAT YOU"
"Merry Christmas"

Enhance your Christmas, with Christmas poems and stories highlighted with your favorite Christmas carols. Christmas traditions are fast becoming a family way of life.
Poems are a simple way of inspiring others to join in on the Christmas traditions that love and poems can bring to this Christmas holiday.

Christmas Traditions of Joy,
both big and small
so precious from the start,
are moments to recall
and treasure in the heart.
